A notable change is the tire grip players can take more control of their car, worrying less about skidding in tight turns. This game is themed more on the street racing/import tuner scene than its predecessor. It is the sequel to the 2004 game FlatOut. Getting away with shady shit on Steam is 100% of their business model.FlatOut 2 is an action racing video game developed by Bugbear Entertainment and published by Empire Interactive in Europe and Vivendi Universal Games in North America. The solution, imperfect as it was, was to just allow anyone to put anything on Steam. Good games might have to jump through all these extra hoops, while shovelware still spewed onto the storefront at an alarming rate. Steam Direct seemed to be a response to the fact that their deal with Strategy First was deeply unfair for everyone else. This completely undermined the entire system (though it still had some other, unrelated fatal flaws.) Its no coincidence that the majority of their games on Steam came out during the Greenlight period, it was the perfect time for them to exploit Steams broken systems and enrich themselves by destroying Steam's credibility. They could pick whatever garbage they wanted off greenlight and publish it directly, without any sort of quality control. However, this didn't apply to Strategy First. They also used this veto to stop games from circumventing Greenlight. They were the first publisher to sign on with Steam and the deal Valve agreed to was very shortsighted.ĭuring the "Curated" era of Steam, Valve could veto releases from most publishers if they thought the product was just shovelware. Strategy First are directly responsible for Steam becoming a shitshow of shovelware. It doesn't matter if I enjoyed the game, hated it, bought it on launch day or not, its still false advertisement.ĮDIT 2: BTW, all the companies involved, (publishers: Bigben Interactive & Strategy First, developers: Kylotonn) are all still in business, and can make this happen. And yet, they never removed this promise off the Steam storefront. They promised content that was started, worked on, then abandoned with no reason, or say from the publisher. But we also have to blame the publisher as well. I know it's way too late, but I hope this will shed light on this false advertising.īlame me all you want for buying an incomplete product or what not. But seeing recently how Reddit has been a popular place for issues like this, and that I recently remember of the issue when I replayed the game again, I decided to post this. The reason why I never brought this up earlier is because I didn't know where to voice this issue out. I understand many who are upset at me because I bought an incomplete product, and now I'm complaining about it 2 years later. #Flatout 2 publishers plusI purchased the game on day one, I didn't preorder because I don't preorder games, plus it was just released onto Steam day one. They didn't even remove it from the Steam description! Can Steam, or even us do anything against this?ĮDIT: Due to seeing some of the comments I want to address some things here. I understand things change, but this is just a pure lying. It's mostly the fact for me that they can get away with this, clearly promising adding a feature in, then abandoning it with zero repercussions. I've contacted both the publisher, and developers on Facebook, both saw my messages, and ignored them repeatedly. To make it even worse, they did released a Steam workshop tool for the game then went completely silence. We never got an update, the workshop, or the DLC that was release for the console versions even though all of this is listed as Steam depots/branches in SteamDB. The game is FlatOut 4: Total Insanity Whether you heard of the game, played it or not, written on the store front clearly states that the Steam Workshop will be added 30 days after the game's release. I should have brought this up a while back, but now that I'm replaying the game again, its starting to really bother me again.
